Last week we posted about some great holiday events in downtown Greenville. But we don’t want to neglect the great holiday attractions that can be enjoyed all season long.
Here are some great ideas for holiday fun that can be enjoyed anytime in December.
Go ice skating
Get into the holiday spirit at United Community Bank Ice on Main. Each winter the green in front of the Courtyard Marriott on Main Street is converted into a beautiful outdoor ice rink surrounded by lighted holiday trees. It’s a great holiday tradition for our city—but if the Christmas season is just too busy to make it out, don’t worry because Ice on Main is open through January 19.
If you prefer a larger, indoor rink, the Bon Secours Wellness Arena offers Skating on the Big Ice when there isn’t a hockey game or ice show going on.
Find unique gifts in our downtown boutiques
Looking for something unique? Skip the mall madness and browse downtown Greenville’s many boutiques and specialty shops instead. You can find local art, upcycled jewelry, quirky home décor, clothing, fine food and drink, and much more. And even just window shopping is a ton of fun, which isn’t something we can always say for the mall at this time of year.
Take a Carriage Ride
Tour the beautiful downtown Christmas lights from a horse-drawn carriage! Technically you can do this at any time of the year, but it’s perhaps a little more magical at Christmas. Click to make a reservation.
Gawk at the Roper Mountain Holiday Lights
Thousands of sparkling lights create a dazzling Greenville holiday tradition that also raises money for local charities. This isn’t quite downtown Greenville (it’s at the Roper Mountain Science Center off Interstate 385) but we have to include it because it’s just so cool. Most of the light displays are visible from the comfort of your car, but you can explore the Winter Wonderland on foot and meet Santa while you’re there. Click to learn more.
Enjoy the St. Francis Festival of Trees
Finally, if you just like strolling around to enjoy Christmas décor, be sure to check out the Festvial of Trees. Exquisitely decorated trees are displayed throughout the season at downtown Greenville hotels, including the Courtyard Greenville Downtown, the Hampton Inn & Suites RiverPlace, and the Hyatt Regency Downtown. Trees are sponsored by local organizations to benefit St. Francis’ Cancer Center.
Downtown Greenville offers so much to enjoy. That’s one of the many reasons why we love to call it home—and we hope you do too!
