Buzz about Greenville: March 2015 edition

Downtown Greenville scFor a relatively small city, Greenville SC gets a lot of positive attention–including being named one of five “hottest destinations” by a CBS travel editor.

Here are three more recent articles highlighting Greenville’s strengths:

Livability.com: Greenville #4 of Top 10 Best Downtowns

Livability ranked Greenville as #4 in its list of Top 10 Best Downtowns for 2015. “Today, downtown Greenville is lauded as one of the most livable places in the country,” the site notes. “Despite ongoing development, downtown Greenville has retained its small-town charm.”

The description also praises Falls Park, describing it as “a fairy-tale like setting in an otherwise urban landscape.”

Livability does a good amount of research on small- to mid-sized U.S. cities, with an emphasis on urban communities that attract full-time residents. Criteria for the ranking included walkability, arts and entertainment options, and percentage of residents who actually own homes downtown.

USA Today: Artisphere nominated for 10BEST contest

USA Today and 10BEST put together a list of top art festivals in the country, and Greenville’s own Artisphere has been selected as a contestant.

The contest page cites Artisphere’s “international-caliber artists” and notes that it “has earned regional as well as national esteem as one of the top art events in the nation.”

Readers have a chance to vote for their favorite festival until April 13. Last time we checked the leaderboard, Greenville was #3. You still have a chance to vote!

Charlotte Magazine: A love letter to Greenville

Finally, Charlotte Magazine published a “love letter” to Greenville. Writer Justin Heckert praises Greenville’s downtown, plus discusses its transformation over the years.

“When people think of South Carolina, they think of Charleston, or Myrtle Beach—not you,” Heckert writes. “You feel like a secret. I would live here and ogle food through the fronts of all the trendy restaurants and then bar up at The Velo Fellow, with the waterfall sounds at the foot of Liberty Bridge in my ear.”
